Admin
The central component of the Strata Apps system. This program allows the user to manage all of the functions of the system, maneuver data, design forms, set up the Online Wizard, and other administrative functions.
application
A single family’s form turned in by the student.
application ID
The number given to an application after scanning. The ID is a 10 digit number beginning with the current school year followed by a 6 digit sequential number (e.g. 2014000001).
attachment
Any supporting documents such as W2’s, notes, income documents etc. that may be turned in with the application by the family. All attachments should be scanned and left with the application, not discarded.
AutoProcess
The operation that Strata Apps conducts after an application (or group of applications) is scanned and saved. ICR technology is used to analyze and interpret handwriting on an application.
batch
The group of applications scanned at the same time. Recommended size is 25 applications.
batch ID
The number assigned to the batch after scanning, starting with 1. This number will continue to grow every year and will never repeat.
barcode
The Quick Response (QR) Code in the bottom right of your application. Contains a unique identifier that marks the application belonging to your district, as well as the language (i.e. English, Spanish, Creole, Portuguese, Chinese, Hmong, Somali), and the run number (each application’s order is assigned a number to distinguish them).
Form Design (also known as field set-up)
In order for an application to be successfully read by the system, it needs to be set up and inputted into the system as an XML file. This can be done within Strata Apps in the Form Design section of Admin, but this is usually done for you by Image One staff and then imported into your district’s system.
Hold queue
The “place” in the system where applications can be sent to if they are not ready to be processed. This may be because of a number of reasons, including a student not being able to be found in Validation, additional information needed from parents, or the application may be damaged in some way.
Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR)
The software feature that “reads” each handwritten letter or number on the application and interprets it for data entry.
Intelligent Name Recognition (INR)
The same as ICR but specifically “reads” the student names.
Missing ID queue
The state an application is said to be in if it contains a student(s) that the system is unable to find a match for in the student database. Students will remain here until either a match is found or the application is deleted.
Online Wizard
This feature allows the user to create your own district’s website so that students/parents can submit meal applications online.
Point of Sale (POS)
Refers to the software that you use to make the eligibility determination (e.g. PCS, eTrition7, Nutrikids, etc.).
rollover
The process of setting up the system for the next school year. This happens after processing all applications for one school year and transitioning the system into the next school year.
Scan (module)
This module allows the user to read applications, capture the data on them, and send them to Validation and then to be processed.
student database (also known as student lookup)
A copy of student data from your POS systems. Includes date of birth, last name, first name, grade, etc.
TWAIN
The scanner driver supported by Strata Apps and one that is essential for facilitating communication between the scanner and the software.
Validation (module)
This module allows the user to confirm the information scanned on an application and transfer it to be processed.
